What is the current problem, and how does it affect students?
There is no path that goes East-West through St George's field (i.e. from Chemistry to Henry Price). This means that students avoid travelling this way, and if they do then their shoes get muddy and the grass gets slippy and scuffed up. Therefore they don't benefit from this wonderful green space, which has the potential to improve their mood and mental health.
What is your proposed change? How will it benefit students?
My proposal is that the university should build a paved East-West path in St George's field, from Chemistry to Henry Price, using paving that is in keeping with the current aesthetic of the field. This would allow students (and staff, visitors etc.) to make easier and more pleasant journeys through campus without risking muddy shoes or slipping on the wet ground. It would also encourage more students to use the area for relaxing and unwinding, benefiting their mental health.
Have you considered the impact of the proposed change for traditionally underrepresented student groups?
It is possible that if the path is accessible then it would enable people with disabilities to more freely use this space, but I am not in a position to speak for those people.
