LUU should work with the University to make sure the Equality and Inclusion Calendar is as transparent and accessible as possible for students and staff at the University of Leeds
Passed: May 2023 (19th)
What do you want/Why do you want it?
The University of Leeds should be more flexible to those of other cultures and, ideally if requested, be able to take time off for their celebrations. This is especially true for those who are international students. Ideally, these students would have their absences excused. I think this would allow students of other cultures to be more comfortable celebrating their cultural holidays. One way in which this is possible is to raise awareness of the University of Leeds’ Equality and Inclusion Calendar which “helps lecturers respond to requests for flexibility on the grounds of religion or belief”. This would ensure that those teaching are aware of important cultural and religious holidays to their students, and allow students to request flexibility in the handling of their timetable.
