LUU should update their complaints, disciplinary, and appeals procedures

Passed: May 2021 (11th)

What do you want? / Why do you want it?

I want the Union to update the Complaints, Disciplinary, and Appeal procedures which are contained in Bye-Laws 15, 16, and 17. These procedures guide LUU in managing complaints raised by members and by groups, sets out the terms for disciplinary action against members or against groups, and provides a framework for appealing decisions made as a result of the complaints and disciplinary procedures.

The process within the current Bye-Laws lacks clarity, and has inconsistencies between the various procedures which can lead to situations where a complainant has to reiterate their complaint a number of times, or where a member or group may experience repeated disciplinary action over a single incident. The proposed update resolves these issues and gives members a clear and transparent view of the whole complaints, disciplinary and appeals process.
